2019 marks what would have been the 100th birthday of Aaron Shearer, the father of American classical guitar pedagogy. The Aaron Shearer Foundation will be hosting a number of events as part of the Aaron Shearer Centennial Celebration. The first of these will be a pair of concerts at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.

The afternoon concert will highlight the NYC Guitar Orchestra, conducted by Jason Sagebiel; and the Aaron Shearer Foundation’s US Guitar Orchestra, conducted by Kami Rowan, and featuring William Kanengiser and solo performances by some its outstanding members. The program of the USGO will include three world premieres by composers Bryan Johanson, Brian Head, and Kevin Callahan and a New York debut of The Walls by Sergio Assad. The NYCGO will perform Gyan Riley’s Landloper, commissioned by the New York City Classical Guitar Society in 2016.

The evening concert will highlight three of Shearer’s students who have gone on to careers as virtuoso performers: Manuel Barrueco, Ricardo Cobo, and David Tanenbaum. Click here for tickets to the evening concert (15% discount for NYCCGS members; email info [at] nyccgs [dot] com for promo code).
